What is Scissor Seven?
Scissor Seven (伍六七) is a Chinese animated series (donghua) about Seven, an amnesiac hairdresser who moonlights as a bargain-bin assassin to pay off his medical debts. He lives on Chicken Island with his business partner/chaotic father figure Daibo and their feathered family, taking on odd jobs that very quickly spiral into all-out chaos.
Scissor Seven Season 1 Episode 10 - Thousand Demon Daggers
On the surface, it’s slapstick comedy and ridiculous assassination attempts. Underneath, it’s a story about identity, memory, found family, and what it means to choose your own path when your past refuses to let go.
The tone: comedy first, feels later
Scissor Seven starts off light and goofy—sight gags, wordplay, cheap assassination gigs gone wrong—but as the seasons progress, the emotional stakes climb fast. By the time you reach the later arcs, the show is juggling:
Stylish, kinetic fight scenes
Genuinely funny character comedy
Surprisingly heavy emotional beats about trauma, loyalty, and forgiveness
It’s a wild mix that somehow… works.
Scissor Seven Season 5 Episode 9 - Eyeless Master's Prophecy
Key characters you’ll meet
Seven (Wu Liuqi) – The scissors-wielding quasi-assassin who can’t remember his past. Silly, kind-hearted, and way stronger than his assassin ranking suggests.
Scissor Seven Season 2 Episode 1 - Super Scissors
Daibo – A scheming, long-suffering chicken who manages the barbershop and pushes Seven into assassination work to help pay the bills. Heart of gold, brain of pure chaos.
Scissor Seven Season 1 Episode 7 - Assasinating Captain Jack
Thirteen – A stoic, hyper-competent assassin initially sent to kill Seven… who slowly finds her worldview (and feelings) changing the more she crosses paths with him.
Scissor Seven Season 2 Episode 5 - Again, We Meet Captain Jack
Xiao Fei, Cola and more – Chickens, princes, sorcerers, assassins, and weirdos who make Chicken Island feel like its own strange little universe.
Scissor Seven Season 1 Episode 6 - Assassinating a pretty girl
“If you like _________, you’ll probably love Scissor Seven”
If you like One Punch Man or Mob Psycho 100 – You’ll vibe with the blend of absurd humor + serious character arcs.
If you like Kung Fu Hustle or Stephen Chow movies – The deadpan gags, sudden melodrama, and martial arts parody will feel very familiar.
